BfU do Brasil works with Brazilian standards (ABNT-Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, FEEMA – Rio de Janeiro State Environmental Engineering Foundation, CETESB – São Paulo State Environmental Sanitation Technology Company) for its technical environmental studies (drilling, surveys, construction of monitoring wells, permeability testing, soil and groundwater parameter measurements, and sample collection).
Risk analyses performed by BfU are based on models such as RBCA (Risk-Based Corrective Action standards by the American Society for Testing and Materials), Brazilian national guideline values (e.g. CETESB), or international values (e.g. the Dutch List).
BfU stands out in the field of environmental investigations of industrial areas, garbage dumpsites, industrial landfills, refineries, distribution sites and gas stations, as well as in environmental monitoring and groundwater and soil treatment:
- emergency and post-emergency services
- environmental liability assessment
- remediation of the contamination
- monitoring (groundwater, soil and air)
During the provision of services by BfU, the client is kept informed about every stage of the process, from beginning to end, through periodical reports.

Interventions are carried out according to established remediation goals set in coordination with environmental authorities, verifying and optimizing cost-benefit tradeoffs with the client.
- Gas Survey - initial assessment of soil hydrocarbon contamination through VOC (volatile organic compounds) measurements;
- Determination of explosivity levels in enclosed environments, sewers , and industrial installations and soil vapor sampling;
- Geological characterization - surveys for reconnaissance and characterization of local geology, performance of profiles and geological sections, and soil sampling for analysis;
- Hydrogeological characterization - installation of monitoring wells, water sampling for chemical analysis, determination of hydraulic conductivity and groundwater direction through the elaboration of potentiometric maps;
- Determination and delimitation of contamination for environmental risk analysis;
- Mathematic modeling to evaluate contamination plume migration and to implement the appropriate remediation techniques;
- Indication of appropriate remediation techniques;
- Setting up of remediation systems with in-situ , on-site , and off-site techniques.
